Julia Catron
"I am exploring in my work the relationship between synthetic and organic elements, using (as a formal structure) the movement of varying points and lines on a plane. My continuing involvement is focused on the collaboration and competition between the manmade product and the natural structure. This interest has led me into using alternative materials like polyurethane foams and resins combined with the organic spects of encaustic paint. I am searching for ways that materials can form lines- line as edge and line as a pathway- and how much variation can occur along these edges and pathways. I am using multiplicities of points (dots) in various arrangements, the goal being a more complex version of transformation and tension along the pathways and edges that make up the works. The multiplicities of dots, shaped fragments, and tiny numbers can define how a singular line can act (speed up, rupture, and coalesce) within the overall structure of the plane. In these fragmented arrangements, I am looking for new levels of organization that can extend beyond a false or easy coherence. |
