Annie Nash
"Being an artist is as much about the love of the materials as it is about engagement in the process of making art. The paintings in “Cascade” reflect my passion for both the materials and the process. They are filled with rich hues of blues stroked, poured, dribbled, sponged, scumbled, and dabbed on to the canvas, accentuated by white, red, yellow, green, and black. Text about events in Ind’n history floats, partially submerged and suspended under many layers of paint.

As I paint and work the surface of my canvas, covering and uncovering the picture plane, the materials and images are recombined. While in this series I have honored traditional forms, colors, and markings of Coast Salish spirit paddles, I have also transformed them through the use of unconventional colors and techniques in my effort to explore and better apprehend their power."

“Navigations”

"Navigations" are deeply hued, thickly painted works inspired by investigating subtle and complex relationships between color, texture, surface, line, and imagination.
