Harriet Yale Russell
"I am a painter. This is what I have been doing (except when studying or teaching art) since I was nine. For many years now, it seems my work has grown out of images colored by a life lived in or near big cities – filtered through a spirit closely attuned to nature. These images have evolved into an ever-expanding vocabulary -- my shorthand for what I see looking inward and out onto the mountains of northern New Mexico. The process is one of painting, scraping, manipulating. Adding and subtracting. Using every conceivable kind of tool to develop or uncover meaning."
