Carol Sanchez
"My prints are very intuitive, the sources for my images are taken from nature. I take and use organic forms and abstract and articulate them into my own visual language into 'Organic Abstractions.' My main source of inspiration comes from the natural world: plant life and the human form.

I study and investigate organic materials very closely, almost microscopic until these forms are transformed into something other than they seem in a metaphoric sense. I want my work to have a sensual and seductive quality. Ultimately I want my prints to have an essence of beauty, no matter how strange the subject matter. I articulate what I see and create images in all media of printmaking. Each process has a certain quality that dictates how the prints are made and how they will look.

I have been working mainly in the process of Mezzotint. Mezzotint is an archaic form of printmaking, which was used in the late sixteenth century, as a way of reproducing painting for publications. The mezzotint process has a very rich and seductive quality that lends to my imagery. This quality is both a physical and sensual seduction which is very appealing to me as an image maker. Each process of printmaking has a certain attraction, either how it was made (the process) or the visual qualities."
