Don Vernay
"My recent work, both painting and sculpture, has been an attempt on my part to recapture the dimensionality that was lost to me when I found that due to injury I could no longer work in my medium of choice, i.e., welded steel.

Although I began my artist career as a painter, after some time I began to be troubled both by the restrictions inherent in the two-dimensional nature of the picture plane, and the fact that in the arena of abstraction in which I worked, little, if anything was left to be said that had not been said already, and with far greater force than my brush could muster. And so it was this desire to create work with greater depth of both an intellectual and physical nature that caused me to turn to sculpture and work with steel.

It is my hope that through the use of line and texture with a heavy emphasis on depth of color in my painting, and a mix of media in my scupture, in this work I can recapture that lost dimension and thus work that necessary and important transformation which will provide the viewer with a profound aesthetic experience."
